Seasonal Flu Campaign 2011 2012

September 2011

Flu is a very infectious and potentially serious illness and a new flu vaccine must be given each year. For older people and those who have a chronic illness, flu can cause severe illness and can even be life threatening. All those at risk should get the flu vaccine this year to make sure that they are protected.

This year’s seasonal flu vaccine contains3 strains of flu viruses as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and had been manufactured in a similar way to previous seasonal vaccine. The three strains are

  • A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like virus (the pandemic H1N1 2009 virus)
  • an A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2)-like virus;
  • a B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus

Frequently asked questions for those administering the flu vaccine can be accessed here.
